Today, there is greater awareness of gender and sexual orientation diversity than ever before in recorded history. While the LGBT community and its advocates are showing the world that one’s biological sex does not determine one’s gender identity or sexual orientation, there is still much work to be done to promote acceptance of these forms of diversity. Despite strides for greater public acceptance, marginalization of the LGBT community persist, especially for the transgender segment, and not only impacts the rate of substance abuse but may lead to a lack of research study in this area. |
